Leading with Emotional Labor
Manage a Diverse Workforce
with Emotional Intelligence
What is emotional labor? As a leader with multiple competing demands on your time and emotion display, how can you regulate your emotions to express them appropriately, particularly under times of high stress? To make this responsibility even more challenging, how can you identify and embrace the emotion display styles of a multicultural workforce?
In this session, you will learn about the three most common types of emotional labor and how to practice them in leading your team. We will also have a nuanced discussion in which GLI will uncover various strategies for performing the most effective type of emotional labor.
You will also learn about how emotional labor can be practiced differently by dominant and non-dominant social groups—based on ethnicity, gender, age and other demographic characteristics—within your company or organization, and the implications for the engagement of your direct reports and board members.
